Gun Control

Gun Control has grown in popularity after the recent events at schools. But it is more than that, more than what is in the constitution or what is written in any law, gun ownership is about self-ownership. If you cant defend yourself against someone who is trying to cause harm to you, you don't care for yourself. If you don't care about yourself, you can't possibly care about anything else be it your loved ones or your property. A government telling you that you can't defend yourself against a criminal, murderer or any kind of armed threat is telling you that you don't even own yourself. Any government with that much power has total control over its people. At that point, the people are nothing more than a resource to be used. Guns don't load themselves and shoot people. Banning all guns won't stop violent crime. Bad people will still have guns. Let us find something that everyone can agree on let's not strip our second amendment right. That's not fair to any law-abiding citizen that owns a firearm. So why can't we meet in the middle for something both sides think will be beneficial?

  1. Thank you for your opinions on this matter, I think it is the best way for all sides to come together and find a solution as you suggested. However, I do have to respectfully disagree with your statement that, " If you can’t defend yourself against someone who is trying to cause harm to you, you don't care for yourself. If you don't care about yourself, you can't possibly care about anything else be it your loved ones or your property." To me, this is not only a false claim, but one that is not tied to the 2nd Amendment debates that are going on right now. I believe it is a false claim based on the categorization of all people needing to "defend" themselves to care about themselves. There are religions and beliefs that you are to do no harm, even when someone is attempting harm on you. That in no way poses a lack if commitment to ones self or loved ones, but instead a decision that each gets to make on their own acts of violence, whether made in self defense or not. We can all agree that the 2nd Amendment is a hot-button issue, as it has been for years, but the majority of Americans do believe that there need to be changes in the laws surrounding gun ownership, and that is coming from both sides of the party lines. The question I keep coming back to is, who is suggesting a repeal of the 2nd Amendment? As of today, there has not been an organized effort to do so, but there are many organized efforts to change the laws, and that is where we can all meet in the middle. We can stop assuming the intentions of “the other side” and instead move the cause we believe in further by voting those into office that will work on the issues at hand in a bipartisan matter.
